The Vintage 2024

At Enthusiast Auto Group, there are few things we love more than attending a car show—especially when BMWs are the focus! No matter where it is, the passion we all share for BMW always makes for great conversation and a fun weekend. One of our favorite shows is The Vintage in Hot Springs, North Carolina, which takes place in mid-May every year. We had signed up for a booth and were slated to bring a few cars down, but unlike in past years, we were going to drive them.

At Enthusiast Auto Group, there are few things we love more than attending a car show — especially when BMWs are the focus. No matter where it is, the passion we all share for the marque makes for great conversation and a fun weekend. One of our favorites is The Vintage, held in the mountains of North Carolina every May.

This year, we drove

We had signed up for a booth and were slated to bring a few cars down, as we do every year. But unlike past years, we decided to do something different: instead of trailering them, we were going to drive them. There is no better test of a car — or a better way to enjoy one — than a long road trip through great roads, and the route to The Vintage delivers some of the best driving in the eastern US.

Why a road trip is the ultimate shakedown

Trailering a car to a show is easy and safe, but it tells you nothing about how the car actually behaves. Hundreds of miles of highway, mountain switchbacks, and changing weather reveal everything:

  • How the drivetrain feels at sustained speed and under load
  • Whether the cooling system holds up on a long mountain climb
  • The true comfort of the seats, the HVAC, and the cabin over a full day
  • The small rattles, noises, and quirks that never show up in the shop

In other words, driving the cars to the show is the best possible advertisement for the work we do. A car that can cover that distance comfortably and confidently is a car that has been properly sorted.

The Vintage itself

Once you arrive, The Vintage is a celebration of air-cooled and vintage BMWs in one of the most beautiful settings imaginable. The field fills with everything from concours-grade restorations to honest, well-loved drivers, and the paddock conversation runs all weekend. For a shop that lives and breathes these cars, it is hard to imagine a better way to spend a few days.

The best part of The Vintage is not the trophies — it is the drive there, and the people you meet once you arrive.
