EAG Impressions

Building on the success of the E36, the E46 3-Series refined BMW's compact luxury formula. Its design was evolutionary rather than revolutionary, maintaining the brand's signature styling cues. While European buyers had access to a wide range of diesel and petrol engines, U.S. models were primarily offered with inline-six powerplants. The performance gap between European and U.S. models narrowed significantly with this generation, particularly with the M3. Both markets received the same high-revving 3.2L S54 engine, though European models still enjoyed a slight power advantage due to less restrictive emissions equipment.

Overview

As the final evolution of BMW's naturally aspirated inline-six M3 lineage, the E46 M3 continues to define the modern performance car benchmark. Powered by the legendary 3.2-liter S54 inline-six producing 333 horsepower, the E46 M3 paired everyday usability with motorsport pedigree in a way few cars have since replicated. More than two decades after production ended, the E46 remains one of the most celebrated M cars ever built, prized for its razor-sharp steering, balanced chassis, and exhilarating high-revving character.

Finished in Imola Red II over Black Nappa leather, this 2005 BMW M3 Convertible has covered just 53,527 original miles from new. Produced on May 4, 2005, this six-speed manual example was exceptionally well optioned from the factory, equipped with power memory sport seats, heated seats, lumbar support, Navigation Professional, Harman-quality HiFi audio, brushed aluminum interior trim, Park Distance Control, rain-sensing wipers, automatic climate control, and a fully automatic black convertible soft top. BMW AIR records confirm the car remains in its original factory configuration with no documented retrofit equipment.

Few cars illustrate Enthusiast Auto Group's philosophy better than this M3. We first acquired and sold the car in 2014, welcomed it back nearly a decade later before selling it again in 2023, and now have the opportunity to present it once more. Vehicles that repeatedly return to EAG are a testament to both the quality of the cars we curate and the relationships we build with their owners. Having known this M3 through multiple ownership cycles provides a level of familiarity and confidence that is rarely possible with collector cars.

The accompanying CARFAX reflects an excellent history with no accidents or damage reported, 17 documented service records, and long-term enthusiast ownership. Originally delivered through Pace BMW in New York, the car later spent time in California, New York, South Carolina, and most recently Florida. During its life it has received routine servicing through BMW dealerships, including Hilton Head BMW and Fields BMW South Orlando, with documented maintenance including oil services, wheel bearing replacement, tire replacement, inspections, and other routine care. The CARFAX also documents EAG's acquisition of the vehicle in both 2014 and 2023, making this its third time being represented by our team.

Prior to sale, this M3 will complete Enthusiast Auto Group's comprehensive preservation process, including a complete mechanical inspection, road testing, fluid verification, and completion of any maintenance or preservation items identified during our evaluation. As with every EAG offering, our objective is to preserve the originality, driving character, and long-term collectability that have made the E46 M3 one of BMW's most revered performance cars.

History

BMW production records confirm this M3 Convertible was produced on May 4, 2005, finished in Imola Red II (405) over Black Nappa leather (N5SW) with a black fully automatic convertible top. Factory equipment includes heated power sport seats with memory and lumbar support, Navigation Professional, Park Distance Control, automatic climate control, rain sensor, brushed aluminum Shadow trim, HiFi audio system, multifunction M steering wheel, and white indicator lights. BMW AIR records confirm the vehicle remains in its original factory configuration with no documented retrofit equipment.

The CARFAX documents a clean ownership history with no accidents or damage reported, five previous owners, and 17 documented service records. Originally delivered through Pace BMW in Mamaroneck, New York, the car later resided in California, New York, South Carolina, and Florida while receiving regular servicing through authorized BMW retailers. Particularly notable is the car's longstanding relationship with Enthusiast Auto Group. We first acquired and sold the car in 2014, reacquired it again in 2023, and are now proud to offer it for a third time. Few collector BMWs return to us more than once, making this an especially meaningful example whose stewardship and history are exceptionally well known to our team.
