The E39 5-Series is often regarded as one of BMW's finest hours, striking a near-perfect balance between comfort, performance, and technology. While European markets enjoyed a wide range of engines, including efficient diesels and potent V8s, U.S. buyers had a more limited selection. The crown jewel of the lineup, the E39 M5, arrived in North America for the 2000 model year. Unlike previous generations, this M5 featured a V8 engine, bringing it closer in specification to its European counterpart. However, subtle differences remained, such as European models receiving a more advanced dynamic stability control system.
Overview
The E39 M5 is widely considered one of the greatest sport sedans ever produced, blending understated styling, everyday usability, and motorsport-inspired performance into a remarkably cohesive package. Powered by the legendary S62 4.9-liter naturally aspirated V8, the E39 M5 produces 394 horsepower and delivers a driving experience defined by balance, precision, and analog engagement. More than two decades after its introduction, it remains a benchmark for the modern M car formula.
This 2001 BMW M5 is finished in Le Mans Blue Metallic over Black leather with Le Mans inserts, one of the most iconic and desirable specifications offered on the E39 platform. Showing 44,691 miles, this example presents as a highly preserved and enthusiast-owned car with long-term stewardship and favorable history.
The interior is trimmed in extended leather, elevating the cabin with leather coverage across the dashboard, center console, and door panels. Additional factory options include Park Distance Control (PDC) and a power rear window shade, enhancing both comfort and usability.
