The E39 5-Series is often regarded as one of BMW's finest hours, striking a near-perfect balance between comfort, performance, and technology. While European markets enjoyed a wide range of engines, including efficient diesels and potent V8s, U.S. buyers had a more limited selection. The crown jewel of the lineup, the E39 M5, arrived in North America for the 2000 model year. Unlike previous generations, this M5 featured a V8 engine, bringing it closer in specification to its European counterpart. However, subtle differences remained, such as European models receiving a more advanced dynamic stability control system.
Overview
The E39 M5 is widely regarded as one of the greatest performance sedans ever produced. Combining understated design with a naturally aspirated V8 and a 6-speed manual transmission, it set a benchmark that modern M cars continue to chase. Powered by the legendary S62 4.9-liter V8, the E39 M5 delivers 394 horsepower with a level of balance, refinement, and mechanical engagement that remains unmatched more than two decades later.
This 2002 BMW M5 is finished in Le Mans Blue Metallic over Black leather with Le Mans sport seats, a particularly desirable and purposeful specification. Showing just 23,500 miles, this example presents in outstanding condition, retaining a clean, factory-correct appearance throughout. The exterior paint is well preserved and protected by paint protection film on the partial front end, mirror caps, and A-pillars, helping maintain the car’s original finish. Inside, the sport seats remain firm and supportive, with minimal wear consistent with careful use and long-term preservation.
The car is well optioned, featuring split-fold rear seats, Park Distance Control (PDC), and a full complement of original accessories, including all keys. It remains completely stock and unmodified, preserving the integrity and character that collectors and enthusiasts value most in an E39 M5.
